Biography
Stan Woodward (Bass) and King David Ike Elechi
(Drums)
Knats, a quintet led by two lifelong best mates
from Newcastle Upon Tyne, Stan
Woodward (Bass) and King David Ike Elechi (Drums), making dance
music which derives from their respective roots of Jazz, Drum
and Bass, House and Gospel. Within their short arrival onto the
scene they have already been recognised and broadcasted by Soho
Radio, BBC Newcastle and WDR3, playlisted twice by Spotify on
their ‘All New Jazz’ playlist, also being on the cover
of ‘Jazz Fresh Finds’.
Now set to release their debut album under Gearbox
Records, Knats have getting
out performing within the London scene. Supporting the likes of
Vels Trio, Blue Lab Beats, Moses Boyd, Binker Golding, Tom Ford
and Strata (at Jazz Cafe). Even performing a sold out headline
show for Jazz Refreshed (@ Ninety One Living Room).
Knats’ unique approach to compositions
and performances can leave you gasping for breath! My first experience
of this band was at Love Supreme 2024. I reluctantly walked away
(to photograph other bands) back then, but knew I would see them
again soon. Here we are at Love Supreme 2026 and it is clear the
‘word is out.’ Patrons young, midway and mature looked
on wide eyed in anticipation as this band began to play. I have
no doubt this band (especially bass player Stan Woodward) have
a bright future.
