Biography

In 1987, French arranger and composer Laurent Cugny invited Gil Evans to play with his orchestra, the Big Band Lumière for a 21 concert tour round Europe. Two famous discs were recorded: “Rhythm A Ning” and “Golden Hair” featuring Andy Sheppard who was a regular companion of Laurent Cugny during these years.

These recordings are the last big band music Gil Evans recorded before his death a year later in 1988.

Cugny and Shephard marked the 30th anniversary of these recordings in their first UK performance together in many years.
