The Pizza Express NeverEndingSong
7 September 2009
The Pizza Express NeverEndingSong saw a small
yet elite group of jazz musicians push the principles of improvisation
and collaboration to the extreme. Taking jazz on a journey never
before attempted, musicians from Allstars Collective – who’ve
collaborated with everyone from Michael Jackson to Herbie Hancock,
Stevie Wonder to Madonna performed a specially composed piece
of music, non-stop for seven days as they toured Britain. The
‘Song’ continually evolved as it was shaped by collaborations
with local talent from London, Brighton, Cardiff, Birmingham,
Manchester, Leeds, and Edinburgh. This musical odyssey kicked
off at Dean Street and continued every following evening for a
week at selected Pizza Express restaurants. The core band were
joined on stage for the launch by an eclectic and ‘unlikely’
array of musicians from the world of jazz and beyond.
