Biography
Tim Garland had only played the saxophone seriously
for three years before he joined Ronnie Scott for a series of gigs
around northern Europe and the UK. Since then he has played with
most of the UK’s prominent jazz musicians such as Stan Tracey,
Peter King, Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Jean Toussaint, Tommy Smith
and John Taylor.
Garland studied composition with Robert Saxton
at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, he progressed to become
a successfull bandleader of several projects, most notably with
the jazz/folk crossover group Lammas (featuring Don Paterson and
Christine Tobin) achieving several awards from four albums. Garland
has also written and recorded for the London Jazz Orchestra, and
the Dankworth Generation Band. In 2006 he was voted Musician Of
The Year by the 2006 Cross-Parliamentary Jazz Society.
Garland continues to perform in festivals around
the globe with various bands, as well as groups under his own name.
He is a key member of Bill Brufford's celebrated Earthworks project
and plays tenor saxophone with Chick Corea.
