“…Sub-woofer experts REL
had, I believe, seven new items on display. The most impressive
being the Rel No.31, which were on both audio and AV duties with
the sublime sounding KFF Blades. As big as the Rel No. 31 is given
the small room, in the hands of expert John Hunter, they were
‘dialled-in’ perfectly with the Kef Blades. The ‘with
sub’ and ‘without sub’ demos gave the perfect
view into what these £7k / 900 watt babies can do to any
sound system. Bring on the No.32’s.” Les

“…There also seemed to be an
increasing trend for a sub-woofer to be included in a regular
two speaker
hi-fi solution, a setup I am happy to endorse. Many
sub-woofers on offer, but again for me REL hits
the spot, both on their range, price points, and performance.”

“…Townshend Audio
displayed a beautiful copper finished Rock turntable. (Prepared
and set-up by Matt McNulty). Definitely one of the best
sounding systems to my ears. Very clean, open and musical. They
did you proud Max.” Les Best
“…I could have sat in the Townshend
Audio room all day. I visited them twice and tested with
different music types. The room was filled without any signs of
harshness on each occasion.”

““…I listened amongst a
group of five and I believe the name ‘Von Gaylord
Audio’ will stick with each of us for some time.
Not only was there an unusual but beautifully crafted pair of
speakers up front, but these unassuming ‘boxes’ gave
no visual sign of their ability to swing, punch and highlight
good, bad and indifferent recordings. The soundstage was rock-steady
solid, with each instrument in its exact unwavering position.
The valves in this system were digging so deep they intermittently
tripped the room circuits?
I hope that’s not an issue with
more stable home circuits. MY BEST OF SHOW FOR 2023.” Les
Best
“…Stand out jaw dropping moments
for me were Von Gaylord Audio with an amazingly
controlled and realistic sound. Playing a test disc with a sole
drummer, I could almost visualise him in front of me with his
delicate cymbal touches, followed by thundering Tom Tom's and
bass kicks. The strangely named Return of the Legend speakers
paired with Von Gaylord valve amps sounded day and night different
to almost every other system in the show!” Bruce

Sheffield based carbon-fibre experts Wilson
Benesch gave a very impressive display of their in-house
turntable based system which included their sub (sorry) ‘infrasonic
generator’ blending in perfectly with their beautifully
crafted A.C.T 3Zero floor-standers. From Pink Floyd to Faithless
the sound was full, detailed and evenly balanced. Reminded me
of when I was fortunate enough to hear Faithless live. I really
didn’t want to know how much this all cost, given the sub/not
sub is in the region of £3k when it launched in 2006!”
Les Best
“…Wilson Benesch.
My first demo… I was blown away by this experience. Though
musical choices (both vinyl and digital) appeared to be calculated
(no input from patrons). However, I felt that all musicians were
in the room. This was going to be an extremely high benchmark
to equal (or beat). Returning the next day with greater exposure
and experience with other systems, I got a sense that some music
genres that weren’t as impacting, but nonetheless, what
an incredible set-up.
What an incredible price.”
